When I was a little girl, I didn’t play with baby dolls. Instead, it was me with my model horses. Oh the fun I had with them running in a stampede and horse playing around with each other.
My love for horses stems from growing up with horses at our country home. My dad always said he was the “Black Lone Ranger”. But that’s another story. Lol. One day, Barbie arrived at my house on a horse! I didn’t know who she was then, but I was in love! Mainly because she was on a horse! Together we had fun playing along with my other herd.
In a short time, my Barbie became a pilot, I had the Barbie airplane, lived in her dream house and drove her super cool pink car. She also had friends come live with us. I remember Skipper and my first Black Barbie. Together we lived in Barbie dream world and did amazing things.
Barbie and all her many careers inspire girls to dream big. One of the best things Barbie did was become diverse. Today, Barbie has: 35 skin tones 97 hair styles 9 body types over 200 careers
That is the real world we live in. We are a diverse planet. We are all beautiful. We are all intelligent. And we are all capable to become whatever we chose.
My daughter played with Barbie as a child. She’s actually 14 years old today. Happy Birthday, Lovey! Sadly, her Barbie days are over. But I encouraged her to play when she was young, because, Barbie is multicultural and has many careers to influence her young mind.
It was so endearing to watch her and her friends play with Barbie and their imaginations running wild. The memory of their laughs brings me sweet joy. I treasure those moments.
Playing with Barbie using your imagination to create her world is one thousand times better than being on the cellphone watching Tik Tok and spending hours on other social media.
If my daughter still wanted to play with Barbie at 14 years old (ok, it would be a bit odd) but still, I’d support it because she’s using her brain to dream with Barbie that she is a lawyer, doctor, pilot, and more.
Dreams do come true. Dream on ladies.
